Providing 40+ Years of Geotechnical Expertise

  • An underground mining tunnel with rough rock walls, and a red mining machine in the foreground.

    Mine Design & Stability

Safe extraction depends on defensible ground control. AME combines field experience with GEOLAB-derived material properties to engineer roof support, pillars, and slopes that meet real-world demands and regulator expectations. We deliver ground-control plans, pillar design and recovery studies, highwall/slope stability, multi-seam/level interaction analyses, ventilation and contaminant-dispersion modeling, and independent safety audits.

  • Mining dump truck unloading black coal at an open-pit mine with layered earth and blue sky in the background.

    Mine Planning & Reserve Analysis

Accurate reserves and realistic schedules drive sustainable margins. AME integrates geologic models, geotechnical constraints, and economic inputs to develop mine plans that maximize recovery and reduce risk. Services include feasibility and pre-feasibility studies, reserve estimation and reconciliation, sequencing and production scheduling, break-through/access planning, geologic mapping, coal/rock quality assessments, and core logging. We provide transparent assumptions and sensitivity cases to support investment decisions and day-to-day production.

  • Close-up of a damaged electric motor subjected to a short circuit, with a burnt and melted rotor shaft and debris inside the motor casing.

    Rock Mechanics Testing Lab (GEOLAB)

GEOLAB is AME’s in-house rock mechanics and geotechnical laboratory, delivering ASTM/ISRM-compliant testing with rigorous QA/QC and predictable turnaround. Typical tests include UCS & elastic modulus, triaxial, Brazilian tensile, direct shear, point load index, slake durability, density/porosity, moisture content, and sample prep/logging. Reports include full test parameters and derived properties for stability analysis, pillar design, and numerical model calibration.

  • Underground cave with a large rock formation resembling a tree trunk, illuminated by artificial light, with sandy floor and scattered rocks.

    Instrumentation & Monitoring

AME designs, installs, and maintains geotechnical monitoring programs that deliver real-time data on deformation, stress, groundwater, and environmental conditions. Typical systems include vibrating-wire extensometers, convergence stations, stress/load cells, piezometers, displacement/crack gauges, strain gauges, and seismic. We integrate rugged data loggers to retain and distribute data, set thresholds and alerts, build dashboards, and interpret trends.

  • Frozen waterfall and icy landscape inside the Giant's Causeway, with snow and ice-covered rocks, cliffs, and cave openings.

    Litigation & Regulatory Support

Objective engineering that stands up in hearings. AME supports permitting, enforcement actions, and disputes with independent technical reviews, failure and subsidence investigations, blasting/vibration analysis, reserve and depletion audits, and ground-control assessments. Our PE-led team produces clear, defensible reports, exhibits, and expert testimony for DSMRE/DEP/DNR/MSHA/OSHA processes and civil litigation. We translate complex data into findings that regulators, counsel, and non-technical audiences can trust
