Appalachian Mining & Engineering, Inc. (AME) provides reliable and practical engineering solutions for a variety of mining projects including, but not limited to, underground and surface mine and quarry analysis and design, geological modeling of mining reserves, slope stability, underground ventilation analysis, refuse impoundment stability and break-through analysis, hollowfill design, and hydrologic investigations.
Stability analysis is dependent on accurate determinations of the strength and material properties of rock, coal, coal refuse, concrete, grouts, and/or soil. Recognizing the need for a state-of-the-art facility to conduct this work, GEOLAB was established as a fully equipped soil and rock mechanics laboratory. GEOLAB has the ability to conduct a full suite of strength and physical property testing in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and ISRM standards. A computer controlled 200,000 lb. capacity SATEC loading frame allows for a full range of compression and tension testing capabilities. Tests can be run in load, strain, and position control. Through the implementation of site-specific material properties and characteristics, AME and GEOLAB produce engineering solutions that are focused on the actual site conditions.
